(More customer reviews)The base of this lamp is a dark brown with lines of lighter brown and off-white swirled around the base, it is done in a matte finish and is quite nice. My one complaint about the base is that the pattern of swirling lines is not blended in well at the top back of the lamp, but this is the back of the lamp, so I suppose it's minor. The shade is a light beige color and has a linen-like pattern. I think it is made of either paper or a thin layer of fabric over paper. The shade is the type that fits around the neck of the lamp, below the bulb, so, it was a bit of a challenge to get the shade straight.
So, having given all the cons, let me say that it's very hard to find an inexpensive lamp these days. I paid 40$ each for these lamps, and I think it was worth it. These are much nicer than anything I saw at Target or the like. The size is very nice for a smaller table (or a narrow one) and they are attractive and fairly neutral.
