(More customer reviews)So I got this home and took it out of the box. It was immediately clear that the factory packaging was substandard. I suppose it might have been a rough ride, but I'd expect a lamp - yes, a lamp - costing a couple hundred dollars to be well-packaged. Not this one.
Anyway, the top bulb was broken and glass chips were rattling around the metal top of the lamp. There was, however, another bulb included, so I put that in and everything came on okay. But then I noticed that the glass base of the the top of the lamp was broken: a big crack right down the middle, which splits the 5-inch-diameter glass right in two, though it's held into place by the metal tray.
So, in the end, I spent time fishing around for little chunks of bulb and, worse, I quickly discovered I'd been shipped a damaged (if somewhat functional) lamp - all due, it would appear, to inadequate factory packaging.
It takes some assembly - things didn't fit together all that easily because of poorly machined and/or damaged threads in the poles - and would be a lot of trouble to ship back, so I suppose I'll just keep it and make a point of never ordering another one.
