The instructions are difficult to decipher and you have to completely disregard the long pole vs short pole instructions, as each pole is the exact same length. The shade initially looks like a piece of trash or packaging material, so be aware of that when you're pulling it out and treat it with care - it's easy to get little crinkles in if you're not careful.
With all that being said, once assembled, the lamp actually looks pretty nice. Because the shade goes inside of the structured poles you just assembled, the quality of it matters less. It's even got little pegs that hold the shade in place within the lamp, so that also makes it looks a little nicer and built in. While I wouldn't recommend it as a gift unless you intend to assemble it before giving it to the person (as I did), I would recommend it as a decent quality lamp for a pretty good price.
