We have used a 100w bulb which throws an enormous amount of light over the room. The whole lamp is well made and very sturdy (does not have a cheap appearance). The reach of the arm is adjustable and can stretch to the center of a dining table without compromising the stability of the stand. While the sleek lines and nickel metal give the lamp a contemporary feel, it would work equally well in a less modern space.
