I bought this nite-lite hoping to use something other than the standard 4 watt incandescent bulb that comes with it since the light output is pretty low. I intended to use it in a stairwell I use frequently where the overhead lights are left on for extended periods of time, instead the nite-lite would provide enough light at a fraction of energy usage while providing a constant light source.
First I tried using a 2 watt LED bulb that used 1/2 the power and put out 2-3 times more light, but the night light would only flash the bulb every few seconds without staying on. Next I tried using a 2 watt compact fluorescent bulb which also used half the power and puts out way more light, but again the night light would not work with that bulb at all.
Obviously the circuitry depends on the bulb being a incandescent 4watt bulb and only a 4 watt bulb as it says it's only good for 4 watts, meaning you can't even use a 7watt bulb should you need more light.
This is a very poorly designed product coming from General Electric. In this day and age of energy efficiency, this product fights against any attempt to use more energy efficient bulb options now available to energy conscious consumers, especially LED bulbs which use much less power, last much longer, and put out more light.
