(More customer reviews)I have bought three of these units. It is a nice-looking task lamp. The first worked well, so I bought two more about three months later. The light is bright enough to be used as a replacement for an incandescent or halogen task lamp, a feature I needed. Too many of the LED task lamps were too weak to function in that capacity but this one wasn't.
That said, within a month of getting the last two units, one of them started strobing instead of emitting a steady light. It was the emitter or board, not the power supply, as I cross-checked those. The strobing was a slow but bright and regular rate discharge, as bright as a photo flash. Obviously that made it useless for the purpose. So I asked my dealer to replace the unit which he quickly did. This was followed by a second failure within a couple of weeks that also required a replacement. Then two of the replacement units also failed in the same way, and were also replaced. Now just today, the first unit I bought failed for the first time, in the same way, about ten months after new purchase. The warranty on the Humanscale Element is 10 years, and nobody has balked at fulfilling the warranty promises, but at $240+ (they are more now) per unit, the exercise becomes time-consuming and frustrating. A cheap unit wouldn't be worth my time, but when I spent over $800 for three desk lamps, replacement under warranty is necessary.
Despite the good quality lighting and the replacement policy, I think I would look at some other model before buying another. I have bought three of these and am now looking at the fifth replacement.
